Diary - Alasdair Wood
Introducing Alasdair Wood...
1. Tell us your full name, where you live and what you do …

My name is Alasdair Wood. I live in the west midlands division. I go to a state high school and have a weekly paper round.

2. a) if you have a job – why do you do what you do?

b) if you are studying – what do you want to do when you finish?

I take my options this year; I have to do RE and ICT on top of the three main subjects. I will probably also take Geography, German and either History or business studies. I want to go on to study politics, law and whatever else might help me in what I want to do and go to university. I would like to go into politics when I’m older and my dream is to become an MP.

3. What are you passionate about?

Firstly I’m passionate about Jesus. I’m a sinner and unworthy of him, but he died when he was perfect so that he could make me worthy to be able to be in the presence of God. He bridged the gap between humans and God. And he gives me the chance to have eternal life. So I have a good reason to be passionate about him.
I’m also passionate about what’s going on in the World, which is a reason why I’m interested in geography and politics. There are so many terrible things happening in the World that we know so little about. The second civil war of the Democratic Republic of Congo killed nearly 4million civilians, and the problems its created is thought to be killing 1,000 people a day. But hardly anyone has heard about it. I haven’t spoken to anyone my age who knows about it. But I believe they should.

4. Something that has made a major impact on your life is …?

In the summer 2005 my sister contracted E.coli and kidney failure, coming back from holiday. I never realised how serious it was. It wasn’t till after I realised that it’s something that can kill you easily if you get it. But I trusted God. Loads of people where praying for her. She recovered in a quite miraculous way. She was able to breathe by herself after 10 days and she was out of intensive care in another 4 days. She was expected to be in for a long time if she survived. My faith has been made strong through how God has been so good to me in ways like this. I believe God keeps giving and giving, he may take away but he is still there for us. I know that I am quite dependant on him and don’t know where I would be without knowing him.

5. In less than 20 words, what is the meaning of life?

To carry out the mission in which God has laid out for you.

6. Why do you want to write for us?

I want to write to encourage people in the New Year and encourage people in their walk with God. Also I want to show the need for Christians in this troubled World through the news that takes place in the month.
