How to stay safe online
The web can be a fun place to be, but there are a few important things to remember in order to stay safe.
First - make sure your mum, dad, guardian, teacher or youth leader knows when you're surfing the net. If you see something you don't like or makes you upset or uncomfortable you must tell someone about it.
People may not be as honest as you and may try to trick you into becoming their friend. Never give out personal information to people you don't know in real life. SA Kids will never publish personal information about you. If you do receive emails asking you for details about yourself, don't reply and tell an adult you trust straight away.
Personal information includes:
your full name- your address
- your email address
- your phone and mobile numbers
- your school
- photos of yourself
- your parents' credit card information
Never agree to meet anyone you know online unless you know them anyway. Even then make sure an adult knows where you are. If a website asks you for any personal information, check with an adult first.
That's the heavy stuff out of the way - stay safe and you'll have a great time on the web! Let us know if you find any really good sites that we should tell other people about.
Have fun!
