An Introduction to Skinnergate House

Skinnergate House has been in existence since 1856, when it was first established as a home for itinerant workers.   It was rebuilt in 1928 by gift from Lord Forteviott.  This building still stands, although a major refurbishment was undertaken by The Salvation Army, generously assisted by government and local grants.  This refurbishment was completed in January 2001 when it became fully operational in its present form. The Trustees of the Perth Model Lodging House Association own the building, and they, together with their house management committee, continue to take a regular and keen interest in the work undertaken here.

The work undertaken within the unit is intended to enable the residents to realise their best potential in a safe and private environment, where their dignity, choice and safety are central to the programme.   This is done through individually agreed Personal Development Plans that are worked through in conjunction with named principal and secondary key workers.

Mission Statement

Skinnergate House is a caring and supportive Christian Centre helping to address the needs of those who seek our help. In acknowledging every individual's dignity and potential, we seek to develop whole lives. (physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, culturally and spiritually.)

We do this through the provision of care, support, encouragement, guidance, advice and training.

Below is a basic summary of all the work undertaken through this Resettlement Programme.  For more information on each, click the relevant links above.
